Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president, and is also the highest-ranking female officer in American history. She is a member of Congress and a former US senator who represents California. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her professional career started in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and was elected again in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California, from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to do so in the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and legalization of cannabis which could lead to the citizenship for undocumented immigrants as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her most well-known accomplishments are her sharp questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
